From Broken Bones to Healing Hearts: My Journey with Sarah Baartman

Internationally renowned poet and storyteller Diana Ferrus will deliver a performance lecture about her spiritual and emotional journey with Sara Baartman and how she got to write her famous poem “I’ve Come to Take You Home” which contributed to the repatriation of Sarah Baartman’s remains to South Africa from the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris, France in 2002. Siphokazi Jonas is a renowned South African poet and the first South African spoken word poet to be invited to perform before the State of the Nation address in South Africa’s parliament in 2021. Both Diana Ferrus and Siphokazi Jonas are Poetry Africa’s Featured Poets presented by the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
