Immersive projected animation installation

Inka Kendzia and Xabiso Vili

“Kwasukasukela” is a Zulu term that, loosely translated, means “in the beginning” and serves as a call to the beginning of a story. In this particular immersive projection mapping experience, Kwasukasukela is an African contemporary creation myth woven to life by four South African poets, embodying various African spiritual deities that are reimagined as contemporary characters. This unique origin story and creation myth serves as a new imagining of how African mythology may be seen to reimagine our past, present and hence the future.

Commissioned for the inaugural Forum Création Africa in Paris,  with funding from the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and with the support of the French Institute of South Africa.
