In 2000 the UWC Robben Island Mayibuye Archives (formerly the Mayibuye Centre) became the official Collections Unit of the Robben Island Museum. The Mayibuye Archives is a liberation archive that holds unique multimedia collections depicting multiple facets of the liberation struggle waged against the apartheid regime – from within and outside the borders of South Africa. The Mayibuye Archives is located on the UWC Campus within the Main Library and is funded by the Department of Arts and Culture.
