The Present as an Archive: Intergenerational Dialogue Through Folklore

15 February 2024
10:30
90 mins
Avalon Auditorium, Homecoming Centre

How can folklore function as a library for intergenerational dialogue and a portal into re-memory? This participatory workshop contemplates folklore as one of the main preservers of heritage, its current and imagined positioning against the backdrop of a rapidly developing society. Workshop participants will be given one of four folktales at random and divided into groups based on the folktale received. Working in these groups, participants will discuss how folktale can function as a present archive through the intersection of rememory, recurring themes and imagination. They will create a folktale in response and present it in the workshop.

Note: The responses will be recorded and disseminated as audio recordings for public distribution
