District Six is a piece of land in Cape Town, South Africa, that bears testimony to resistance, resilience and restitution. It was a neighbourhood torn apart by apartheid’s segregationist policies. With its 60,000 residents dispersed across the Cape, its memory remained resilient against time.
In this short film, former residents return to the land to speak of their pain and truth. Some are still seeking reconciliation — literally — with the land as part of South Africa’s land restitution process. Others have returned. Walking on the land that was their home, the former residents and those who have returned reflect on the past and present of District Six.
