Dr Rudo Sithole

Founding Director AFRIMUHERE (African Museums and Heritage Restitution) and Senior Lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe

Rudo Sithole is a holder of a PhD. Currently, she is a heritage and natural sciences consultant as well as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe. She lectures various entomology courses to both undergraduate and postgraduate students undertaking BSc honours, Forensic Science and master’s in Tropical Entomology degrees. She also conducts and supervises MPhil and DPhil students’ research in the areas of Apiculture, Forensic Entomology, Insect Biodiversity and Ecology. Before that, she was the executive director of the International Council of African Museums (AFRICOM). Her main responsibilities at AFRICOM included fundraising, partnership development and overall management of projects and staff. Before joining AFRICOM she was the Director of the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe where she co-ordinated and managed the museum’s collections, security and research programs as well as the world heritage sites including Khami and Matobo.

As a result of the diverse career roles, she has accumulated and developed superior leadership and management skills. She has strengthened institutions by negotiating for new financial and technical partnerships, organising collaborative projects and running workshops. She also has developed advanced skills in organising local, regional, and international workshops. She has presented many papers, and chaired and moderated sessions in many meetings all over the world. Outside formal employment, she has held/holds many board positions in professional associations, research organisations and non-governmental organisations. These positions have enabled her to further refine her leadership and management skills as well as contribute to the growth of the organisations. She enjoys working with multidisciplinary as well as multi-country teams. As a result, she has become a good team player and team builder.
