Goabaone Montsho is a museum professional working for Botswana National Museum since 2018. Montsho is also the chairperson of the International Council of Museums Botswana. Montsho as chairperson promotes interests of the international council of museums in issues related to tangible and intangible heritage in Botswana. Raising the visibility of the International Council of Museums is one of Montsho’s core activities. He promotes Botswana’s heritage through publishing in different museum blogs as well as through the local media. He works as a curator under the ethnology division of Botswana National Museum. Montsho’s job activities entail curating temporary exhibitions, documenting ethnographic collections and disseminating cultural information to both international and local museum audiences. He also works with researchers and students conducting research in the museum.
Montsho has made presentations in different conferences on how museums can be instrumental in the fight against climate change. Montsho promotes climate action by frequent oral presentations on radio Botswana. He raises awareness on sustainable traditional methods of sustenance. His oral interviews educate Batswana on the role of local traditional knowledge in insuring sustainable environmental practices.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Anthropology (2010- 2014) from Vancouver Island University in Canada. Furthermore, he attained a master’s degree in public policy and administration (2016- 2018) from the University of Botswana.
Montsho serves as the General Secretary of Botswana Association of the blind and partially sighted. He has conducted lectures and presentation on inclusion of people with disabilities in the heritage sector in various forums.
