Chief Executive Officer at Javett Art Centre

Currently the CEO of Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria, Lekgetho Makola is the former Head of Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg. He has contributed to several diverse platforms that include, among a few, the Rencontres de Bamako in Mali, New York Times portfolio reviews, Curator of UNCTAD in Barbados, International Canon Student Development, Open Society’s Global Convening for the Restitution of African Cultural Heritage and as the Chair the World Press Photo Awards General Jury 2020.

Lekgetho’s artistic philosophy is embedded in social justice and advocacy as an International Ford Foundation Fellow on Social Justice. A post-graduate of Howard University, he accumulated strategic experience in arts administration and cultural programming from institutions where he worked for over two decades including the Robben Island Museum. He advocates for the evolution of art practices by supporting the building of new characters into artistic institutions beyond the traditional.
