Puleng Plessie is the Curator: Education Mediation for the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria (Javett-UP). She is also the co-founder of Keep the Dream arts which is a non-profit company responsible for community education.
Puleng completed her master’s in Fine Art at the University of Witwatersrand in 2017. Her research interest explores the notion of facilitating through dialogue to improve pedagogy by localising content and introducing different IsiZulu terminologies used to reimagine the language and practices associated with arts education. Therefore, her role at the Javett-UP is curating formal (Higher education) and non/formal arts educational programmes, and rethinking the educational/curatorial/museum function.
Puleng is part of the Johannesburg Working Group of Another Roadmap School, a global network which aims to provide open spaces for trans-regional exchange and learning in arts education. She participated in conferences in São Paulo, Vienna, Maseru, Huye, Zurich, Capetown and Johannesburg.
Puleng sits at the Board of Trustees for Curriculum Development Projects Trust, and the Advisory Committee for Tshwane University Of Technology for the Department of Fine and Studio Arts, Faculty of Arts and Design. Puleng has further contributed to a research edited volume entitled STANDING ITEMS: Critical pedagogies in South African art, design and architecture (2018).
