Heritage Officer at the South African Heritage Resources Agency

Zakhele Ndlovu, a heritage practitioner, has devoted his career to the meticulous preservation of heritage legacies. With a background in national government service, Zakhele has emerged as knowledgeable in the nuanced field of repatriation and restitution of human remains and heritage objects. During his tenure in the national government, Zakhele played a pivotal role by assisting in the convening of heritage experts for the development of the cabinet-approved South African National Policy on the Repatriation and Repatriation of Human Remains and Heritage Objects. Zakhele also played numerous roles in the safeguarding of South African national heritage legacies, national heritage institutions and national heritage sites. His work reflects a deep commitment to rectifying historical injustices and fostering cultural diplomacy.

Zakhele’s skills lie in navigating the intricate legal, ethical and diplomatic landscapes inherent in repatriation and restitution efforts. His understanding of various heritage preservation frameworks and his ability to navigate the complex landscape in the heritage sector has earned him well-developed knowledge in heritage promotion, preservation and conservation. Currently, Zakhele is a Heritage Officer at the South African Heritage Recourses Agency (SAHRA) and he tirelessly works towards reconciling the past with the present and shaping an equitable future for Cultural Heritage preservation.
